Al-Germaniyya

February 2025

Dear Friends,

Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy has become a cornerstone of gastrointestinal medical care, allowing diagnosis and treatment of a whole host of maladies affecting the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, and large bowel.  It is an essential component in caring for patients with GI bleeds, GERD, cancers of the esophagus, stomach, and colon, and many more diseases. Screening endoscopies provide life-saving surveillance for cancers and can even remove polyps before they become cancer. The Egyptians, Sudanese, Beja, and Nubians residing in Upper Egypt are severely underserved in this regard as very few options exist and the few that do are out of reach financially. These people groups rely on Al-Germaniyya due to our trustworthy reputation for 125 years, the presence of the necessary equipment and skilled physicians, and because our charity office assists many in their financial difficulties.

Visualizing these deep body cavities and performing biopsies and injections within them is made possible by flexible endoscopes with fiber-optic cables that have a finite lifespan.  While we have taken great care to use and reprocess our scopes gently, milking out the last good years of these generously donated second-hand equipment, the usual wear and tear of use has brought us to the point of needing to update our endoscopy equipment.

We are grateful that we have a company within Egypt that is selling quality endoscopy equipment at a reasonable cost and providing the necessary maintenance that will keep the equipment working well for many years. Our aim is to secure a new endoscopy tower (the video camera/recorder, insufflator, and suction) with two compatible upper scopes and two colonoscopes.  This will allow our talented team of Egyptian physicians to continue offering diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative medicine.

We have already received a generous gift through the Australian embassy in Egypt of over $20,000 to cover part of the total cost of about $45,000.

We are grateful to once again be partnering with Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation (www.SWMCF.org), a Christian medical missions foundation based in southwest Michigan. They have generously offered a matching gift of up to $5,000 to the Endoscopy project. Would you consider helping us complete the remaining $20,000 of the budget to purchase this important equipment?

We trust that the Lord will provide the necessary funding so that his love can be extended to many patients.  Would you prayerfully consider partnering with Al-Germaniyya to make this dream a reality?
