Karanda Mission Hospital

Dear Friends,

Hello again from Zimbabwe. I trust that you have had a happy, healthy start to 2024.

We have another amazing opportunity for a matching grant from our partners at Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation. The first fund raising effort in 2021, our Oxygen generation station, is delivering lifesaving oxygen to our patients each and every day. Thank you! Our second project together, in 2022, purchased a Heavy-duty service vehicle, a Toyota SUV. The vehicle is now beating the dirt roads of rural Zimbabwe in support of our community care activities.

Currently, we are completing the construction of a two-story Rehabilitation unit to serve our increasing inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy services at Karanda, including palliative care in the villages.

For 2024, we are thrilled that our partners at Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation are offering a Matching Gift Program of up to $10,000 for the Expansion of our Laboratory.

Karanda Mission Hospital is a 152-bed district hospital serving a population of 250,000 people in rural northeastern Zimbabwe, and the nation at large. We attend to 100,000 patients for medical care and treatment each year. Our laboratory services have been under extreme pressure for physical space as our clinical volume increases. This expansion, along with the shelving and basic furnishings, will add much needed space and function to our facility. Though our dedicated staff make the best use of existing lab space, more room is needed. Total cost of the project is $40,000.

The funds raised through this Matching Gift Program will go a great distance in helping us reach our goal. Through the Matching Gift Program your gift will be matched up to $10,000. This is another incredible opportunity for us to complete this much-needed expansion with your generosity.

We want to provide much needed diagnostic services to all who need it, instead of referring some patients to remote alternate labs because of a lack of basic facilities and equipment.

Dr. Roland Stephens, missionary surgeon with Southwestern Medical Clinic, was one of the founders of Karanda Mission Hospital in 1961. He and his team of missionary coworkers and national health care professionals established and exemplified a level of health care that is much sought after by Zimbabweans to this day. In keeping with the memory of Dr. Stephens the Southwestern Medical Clinic Foundation, www.swmcf.org, is partnering with us in offering a Matching Gift Program to expand our existing laboratory.

The health and wellbeing of Zimbabweans is vitally important to us. Our ministry at Karanda is to provide holistic care, in body, mind and spirit, to an underprivileged corner of the world. Thank you for coming alongside of our ministry to support us in this time of great need.

Thank you for your consideration of this new opportunity. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
